Civic Informer edition

A Civic Informer edition is a community-specific publishing service that presents public-safety reporting from records released by the community's participating agencies.

A Civic Informer edition is a community-specific publishing service that presents public-safety reporting from records released by the community's participating agencies. It includes named report, map, neighborhood, and email products where supported. An edition is distinct from a reference page that describes a community using public records without an edition.

What identifies an edition

The edition guide describes the Daily Report, Activity Map, Neighborhoods, and Morning Email. Availability depends on the community and its sources. An edition's published links identify its products, while its source information explains which agencies and record types are represented.

Civic Informer publishes the presentation; the underlying agency remains the source of its records. Source release policy, data availability, and published methodology determine what readers can see. An edition does not create findings beyond the source record or establish that every local incident is public.

Example

Hypothetical example: A community reference page contains annual reported-offense statistics and agency information. A separate community has an edition with a dated Daily Report and Activity Map.

Both provide information about places, but only the second example describes the edition product. The existence of the first reference page does not establish a local agency partnership, daily publication, or an email subscription service for that place.

Common confusion

A community profile describes a place. An edition provides an additional publishing service with its stated products. Public-source coverage and an agency partnership are also separate relationships.

“Daily” describes a publication format and cadence, not a guarantee that every source updates continuously.

Reading availability

Use the community's edition links and named source coverage, including police versus fire availability. Check the report's covered date and source-status notes. The general product description should not be read as a promise that every component or record type is offered in every community.
