Civic Informer launches in North Myrtle Beach
We've partnered with North Myrtle Beach Police Department to bring daily reports and an interactive map to the community, with hundreds subscribing in our first days.
We're bringing Civic Informer to North Myrtle Beach in partnership with North Myrtle Beach Police Department. Since October 26, the community has had a new place to explore daily police activity across Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Crescent Beach and Windy Hill.
The edition brings together daily reports, an interactive incident map and a free email briefing. Our goal is straightforward: make the department's records easy to find, understand and follow, whether you're checking activity near home or looking across the city.
The response has been encouraging. As of our November 2 update, the daily email had 427 active subscribers, and the site had recorded more than 2,700 website users since launch. We're pleased to see so many people finding the service in its first days.
Explore the activity around you
Open the North Myrtle Beach incident map to see police activity across the city's four wards. Icons distinguish different types of calls, and you can select an entry to learn more about the recorded response. Locations appear at the block level or more broadly to limit address detail.
Our daily reports bring the previous day's activity together, with breakdowns by category, location and time. You can read a summary, look more closely at your ward or explore the records behind the figures.
The report published October 30, for example, covers the department's activity on October 29. We publish after the day's records arrive, giving you a view of the previous day's work. Subscribe to the free daily email and we'll bring the briefing to your inbox.
The edition also connects you with community resources and the department's separate online police-reporting site. The “File a Police Report Online” link opens that department service; for an emergency, call 911.
Local news helped spread the word
We've appreciated the local coverage introducing the partnership and showing people how to use the new resource.
WMBF News featured the launch on October 27, speaking with the department's public information officer and community members about access to police activity information. South Carolina Public Radio covered the service on October 28, followed by WFXB on October 29.
Through our November 2 update, local news-site links had brought 1,166 website users to the North Myrtle Beach edition. Those stories gave readers a direct route from the launch announcement to the map, reports and email signup.
The beginning of a daily connection
Getting a new resource into people's hands is the first step. Our work now is to keep making it useful, with another day's reporting, an accessible map and an email readers can follow on their own schedule.
Thank you to North Myrtle Beach Police Department for partnering with us, to the newsrooms that helped introduce the service, and to everyone who has subscribed or shared it. We're glad to be part of making public safety information more accessible in North Myrtle Beach.
