Agency profile
An agency profile is a reference summary about a public-safety organization, including its identity, responsibilities, service area, and available sources.
An agency profile is a reference summary about a public-safety organization, including its identity, responsibilities, service area, and available sources. The phrase describes an organization-focused reference concept. It does not, by itself, mean an agency is a Civic Informer partner, has a daily edition, or currently has a standalone profile page.
What the distinction adds
Civic Informer identifies the agencies behind its records and explains which organizations serve a community. An organization summary can appear within that community information; the term does not require a separate agency page. The methodology explains how agency-owned sources are distinguished from Civic Informer's publications.
When reading any organization summary, distinguish the agency itself from the datasets it publishes. One agency can own several sources with different coverage and update schedules. Its headquarters address also need not identify the full area it serves.
Example
Hypothetical example: A reference summary names a regional fire authority, lists the communities it serves, and links its public incident source. One of those communities has a separate place page.
The summary concerns the organization; the place page concerns the community. Neither establishes that every incident in the authority's full service area belongs to that one community. Coverage must be traced to the particular source and geography.
Common confusion
An agency is an organization. A source is a record or publication it provides. An edition is a Civic Informer publishing service. These concepts should remain separate even when the same agency name appears in each context.
Public information about an agency also does not establish endorsement or a commercial relationship.
Current scope
Use the agency's official identity, service description, and source notes. For Civic Informer availability, follow actual current links rather than infer a standalone page from the term. A profile concept should never substitute for evidence of a partnership, reporting boundary, or live product.
