How Arlington's 14 neighborhood areas are drawn, which areas receive the most police calls, and why call volume is not a safety score.

Civic Informer groups Arlington police calls into 14 named areas. The boundaries come from the City of Arlington, not from Civic Informer, and they make it easier to see how activity differs across town.

Where the neighborhood lines come from

The boundaries follow the City's Subareas and Neighborhoods map, the same geography used in Arlington planning work. Each located call is assigned to the area that contains its generalized map point.

A small number of calls fall outside every boundary or do not have a usable location. Those calls still count in Arlington's citywide total, but of course do not count towards neighborhood-specific views.

Coverage begins June 1, 2026. From then through September 16th, Arlington Police Department recorded 6,897 calls across 108 days, or about 64 a day.

Calls by neighborhood

Share of all Arlington calls during that period:

  • Smokey Point - 2,369 calls, 34%
  • Old Town - 1,388 calls, 20%
  • Kent Prairie - 729 calls, 11%
  • Cascade Industrial Center - 699 calls, 10%
  • West Bluff - 294 calls, 4%
  • Island Crossing - 260 calls, 4%
  • Gleneagle - 180 calls, 3%
  • Haller City - 175 calls, 3%
  • Edgecomb - 174 calls, 3%
  • Hilltop - 105 calls, 2%
  • Crown Ridge - 92 calls, 1%
  • Gateway - 66 calls, 1%
  • East Hill - 12 calls, under 1%
  • Arlington Terrace - 7 calls, under 1%

Why the busiest areas are busiest

Smokey Point is Arlington's regional retail corridor. It draws shoppers, workers, and traffic from across north Snohomish County. Its leading calls were Suspicious Event, Traffic, Follow-Up, and 911 Hang Up.

Old Town includes the historic downtown and the police station. Assist, Follow-Up, Suspicious Event, and Public Contact/Assist lead there. Many of those records reflect routine help, walk-in contact, or work on an earlier case.

Kent Prairie is led by Traffic calls. Cascade Industrial Center, which includes the municipal airport and surrounding warehouse and manufacturing land, sees a larger share of traffic and alarm calls.

Remember: Busy commercial areas naturally generate more calls because more people pass through them. Call volume is not a measure of personal risk for the people who live there.

Calls outside a neighborhood

About 5% of calls, 347 during this period, did not land inside one of the 14 areas. Most had a usable location just outside the mapped boundaries, often near the city edge. A smaller number could not be located.

Those calls remain in the city totals, which is why the neighborhood counts add up to slightly less than the Arlington total.

Calls flagged as domestic violence or suicide-related are shown only at the neighborhood level. Their map pins are randomized inside the same neighborhood, so they still count in the correct area.

Using the neighborhood pages

The neighborhoods page lets you compare all 14 areas over 7, 30, and 90 days. Each area page shows its activity badge, category mix, busiest blocks, recent calls, and map.

The activity badge compares each neighborhood with its own recent history. Smokey Point is compared with Smokey Point; Gateway is compared with Gateway. An Elevated week in a quieter area may still contain fewer calls than a Typical week in a busier one.

Look at the call types, the recent log, and whether activity is spread across an area or concentrated on a few commercial blocks. Those details are more useful than the headline count alone.

Is Smokey Point safe?

The call data cannot answer that question with a rating. It can show that Smokey Point receives about one-third of Arlington's calls and that many are connected to traffic, retail activity, alarms, or something reported as suspicious.

Civic Informer publishes counts, not rates per resident or visitor, and not prescriptions of safety.
